Three individuals have been charged in connection with the untimely death of Liam Payne, the former One Direction star, according to officials in Argentina. The singer tragically passed away on October 16 after a fall from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires.
Authorities stated that one individual accompanying Payne has been charged with abandonment followed by death and the supply and facilitation of narcotics. Additionally, a hotel employee and a third individual face similar charges linked to drug supply. The identities of those arrested have not been disclosed.
Payne, who was 31, gained fame as part of One Direction after rising to prominence on The X Factor in the early 2010s. Investigators have been scrutinizing his final days at the CasaSur hotel, where he was staying. Toxicology tests indicated the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system, prompting serious concerns about the events leading up to his death.
A post-mortem examination concluded that Payne died from "multiple trauma" and "internal and external hemorrhage" resulting from his fall. In the course of the investigation, nine home raids have been executed within Buenos Aires. Authorities are also looking into Payne's damaged laptop and other electronic devices that were confiscated as part of the inquiry.
