Milo Yiannopoulos, a former Breitbart editor and outspoken political commentator, was arrested in late August after arriving at New Orleans airport and, according to the Department of Homeland Security, had overstayed his U.S. visa. ICE detained him and subsequent DHS actions resulted in his deportation back to the United Kingdom. Yiannopoulos, who once supported Donald Trump but later criticized the president, has faced accusations of hate speech for his remarks on marginalized groups. His deportation underscores the ongoing clashes between U.S. immigration enforcement and the political influence of controversial public figures.

British right‑wing political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos, 41, was released from U.S. immigration custody on Friday and has been deported back to the United Kingdom, U.S. officials announced.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that Yiannopoulos, an “illegal alien from the United Kingdom,” had overstayed his U.S. visa. He arrived in the United States in May 2019 and remained beyond the period allowed by law.

Yiannopoulos, once a front‑line supporter of Donald Trump during the 2016 election, has since become both an outspoken critic of Trump’s current administration and, at times, a vocal defender of some of the former president’s policies.

The commentator’s career is marked by controversy: his remarks on transgender people, Muslims, Black Lives Matter activists, feminists and gay people have drawn allegations of hate speech. He now identifies as an “ex‑gay,” a claim that has sparked debate within LGBTQ+ communities.

He was arrested on 27 August after landing at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, leading to his detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the quick deportation back to the UK.
