Massive Meth Lab Stopped at South African Farm; Two Mexicans Arrested

Police raided a remote farm near Musina in South Africa's Limpopo province, uncovering a sophisticated crystal‑meth laboratory that had been operating for months.

Two Mexican nationals were detained, along with two Zimbabweans and a Malawian, after investigators traced the plot to a high‑risk drug smuggling network that has been active across Africa.

The police seized over 600 million rand ($37 million) in drugs, production equipment and cash, according to a statement from the South African Police Service.

This raid follows a series of similar busts over the past two years, including an earlier $6 million lab near Johannesburg and a $20 million operation in eastern South Africa. South Africa’s position on the continent’s crime map makes it a focal point for both drug trafficking and production.

The fugitives will face court charges for drug manufacturing and possession next Monday, while investigators continue to probe the broader network that spans Mexico, Nigeria and several African states.

The incident underscores growing international collaboration to dismantle transnational drug cartels that are using remote African farms as production hubs.
