China's most advanced aircraft carrier, the Fujian, has entered service days after a grand commissioning ceremony overseen by Chinese leader Xi Jinping, according to state media.

The Fujian, the country's third warship, is equipped with electromagnetic catapults, allowing for quicker aircraft launches at higher speeds.

This launch marks a significant step forward for Beijing, which is reported to have the largest navy in the world by sheer number of ships. China has been expanding its navy rapidly under Xi’s leadership, increasing pressure on the United States and its allies to keep pace.

The Fujian can launch three different types of aircraft, thanks to its electromagnetic catapult system and flat flight deck, significantly improving its operational capabilities over China's first two carriers, the Liaoning and the Shandong, which were built with Russian technology.

State media hailed the Fujian's commissioning as a major milestone in the development of China's naval power. Only the US possesses an aircraft carrier with a similar electromagnetic catapult system.

The commissioning ceremony took place in Hainan province, where Xi toured the ship and received insights on its performance at sea. Reports suggest Xi was instrumental in the decision to adopt this advanced technology.

During the event, sailors lined the deck, saluting and chanting, Follow the party's command, fight to win, and uphold fine conduct!—a reflection of the military's dedication as China seeks to solidify its naval dominance.
