Singer Chappell Roan has announced that she has left the Wasserman talent agency, which is led by Casey Wasserman, whose name has recently come under fire in connection with Jeffrey Epstein.
In her Instagram statement, Roan highlighted her duty to protect her team and stressed that accountability is essential for meaningful change in the entertainment industry. Although she did not directly reference the Epstein files, her departure appears to align with a broader response to the revelations about Wasserman.
The controversy surrounding Wasserman escalated after it was revealed that he had exchanged flirtatious emails with Ghislaine Maxwell in 2003, as part of the extensive documentation released related to Epstein.
“As of today, I am no longer represented by Wasserman, the talent agency led by Casey Wasserman,” Roan stated. She further expressed that no artist, agent, or employee should be expected to overlook actions that conflict with their moral values.
Following the release of the emails, Wasserman has faced mounting pressure, including calls for him to resign from his leadership position with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Wasserman has responded to the controversy by expressing deep regret over his emails with Maxwell, asserting that they were exchanged over two decades ago, long before her crimes became known. He clarified that he has never had a personal or business relationship with Epstein.
Roan's departure comes after other artists, including a self-described indie rock band and pop rock band Beach Bunny, also expressed discomfort with Wasserman's actions, indicating that they wished to dissociate from his agency.
Roan’s move signals a growing demand among artists for accountability within their industry and highlights the continued ramifications of the Epstein scandal.
