Elon Musk Unveils New Political Party Amid Fallout with Trump
Billionaire entrepreneur aims to challenge the two-party system in the U.S. with the launch of the America Party.
Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has declared the establishment of a new political entity called the America Party, intended to disrupt the existing two-party framework in the United States. Musk made the announcement on his social media platform, X, just weeks after a notable falling out with former President Donald Trump, who he had previously supported.
In his social media post, Musk referenced a poll he conducted during his dispute with Trump, which suggested a significant portion of respondents were in favor of a new political party. “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk proclaimed. He also criticized the current political climate, suggesting that it operates more like a one-party system dominated by waste and graft, rather than a true democracy.
As of now, it's unclear whether the America Party is officially registered with U.S. election authorities. Details about its leadership and organizational structure remain undisclosed. The announcement comes after Musk experienced a rocky relationship with Trump, including resigning from his position in the administration and openly criticizing the former president’s fiscal policies.
Musk had previously been a prominent supporter of Trump’s 2024 reelection campaign, investing approximately $250 million to assist his campaign efforts. After the election, Musk was appointed to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), focusing on significant budget cuts. However, tensions escalated following Musk's resignation from the administration in May, during which he voiced discontent with Trump's tax and spending legislation, which has recently been enacted and is projected to increase the national deficit by over $3 trillion over the next decade.
