Boulder Attack Suspect’s Family Detained Amid Investigation
The family of the suspect accused in a violent Boulder incident has been arrested by immigration officials as investigations continue.
The wife and children of Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, who has been charged with attempted murder and multiple other offenses following an attack during a march for the release of Israeli hostages, have been detained by U.S. immigration officials. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the family’s arrest on social media, stating, "We are investigating their potential involvement or knowledge of this heinous attack."
Reports indicate that Mr. Soliman allegedly targeted the crowd after shouting "Free Palestine" and throwing petrol bombs into a gathering, injuring a dozen individuals. Among the victims were four men and four women aged between 52 and 88, including a Holocaust survivor, Rabbi Israel Wilhelm.
Following his admission to carrying out the attack, Soliman faces a federal hate crime charge. Authorities have revealed that he arrived in the United States on a tourist visa in August 2022, which expired a year later. Despite this, he transitioned to seeking asylum shortly after his arrival.
Sources revealed that Soliman claimed he never communicated his attack plans to his family, leaving behind a phone in his desk with messages intended for them. His wife subsequently surrendered the device to law enforcement.
The detained family comprises Soliman's wife and five children, including a daughter who recently graduated high school and received a scholarship, expressing her gratitude for her family's support and her opportunities in the U.S.
Currently, there is no clarity regarding the possible deportation of the family or their legal status. Soliman made a brief court appearance on Monday, responding to procedural inquiries but refraining from further comments. A subsequent hearing is set for Thursday, where formal charges will be filed, and discussions regarding bail will occur.
As investigations into this violent incident continue, authorities are piecing together potential connections between the suspect and his family regarding the attack's planning and execution.
