FKA Twigs and Shia LaBeouf Conclude Abuse Lawsuit with Private Settlement
FKA Twigs and Shia LaBeouf have agreed on a settlement for the abuse lawsuit she filed in 2020, bringing closure to a lengthy case.
British singer-songwriter FKA Twigs, born Tahliah Debrett Barnett, has reached a settlement in her 2020 lawsuit against actor Shia LaBeouf, in which she accused him of physical, mental, and emotional abuse during their relationship. The legal battle that drew widespread attention has concluded after almost five years, with both parties confirming the terms of the agreement will remain private.
In a joint statement reported by their legal teams, they expressed their hopes for future personal and professional happiness, stating, "Committed to forging a constructive path forward, we have agreed to settle our case out of court." Initially scheduled to go to trial last year, the case encountered delays and difficulties as both sides navigated the complex legal landscape.
According to court documents reviewed by Us Weekly, Barnett has requested that all claims against LaBeouf be dismissed with prejudice, which prevents her from refiling similar claims in the future. The couple first met while working on the film *Honey Boy* in 2018 and enjoyed a brief relationship lasting nine months before their split in 2019, reportedly due to conflicting schedules.
Barnett's allegations describe a relationship marred by harassment and violence, including accusations of LaBeouf waking her in the night and physically assaulting her during arguments. In a 2021 interview with Louis Theroux on BBC Radio 4's *Grounded* podcast, Barnett discussed the deep emotional impact of the relationship, revealing that she was left with PTSD due to the experiences she endured.
LaBeouf has publicly denied many of the claims but acknowledged a history of abusive behavior towards himself and those close to him. "I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I'm ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt," he stated.
In the wake of the lawsuit, Barnett has continued her musical career, releasing her album *Eusexua* earlier this year and receiving accolades, including two Brit Award nominations. Meanwhile, LaBeouf remains known for his roles in notable films, including the *Transformers* series and the latest in the *Indiana Jones* franchise.
