New Podcast Aims to Guide the Dating Struggles of the Modern World

Elizabeth Day and Mel Schilling unveil their insights on navigating today’s complex dating landscape.

Elizabeth Day and Mel Schilling are on a mission to teach listeners how to date effectively in the era of digital romance, drawing from their own experiences and expertise.

In a bid to navigate the complexities of modern dating, Elizabeth Day, a British writer, and Mel Schilling, a renowned dating coach, have teamed up to launch the podcast “How to Date.” This new limited series coincides with the Valentine’s Day season, providing timely advice to those looking for love.

At the age of 46, Day found herself single and divorced after a series of long-term relationships. Entering the dating scene unfamiliar with the massive influence of dating apps left her feeling overwhelmed. “It was such a jungle out there,” she remarked during a video interview, reflecting her surprise at the changes in dating norms in recent years. Her personal journey, which eventually led her to her husband through the app Hinge, inspired her to create “How to Date,” an offshoot of her successful podcast “How to Fail,” which is now in its 20th season.

Joining her on this adventure is Mel Schilling, a dating coach best known for her role on the reality TV show “Married at First Sight.” Both women share a commonality in that they met their partners online at the age of 39, giving them valuable insight into the hurdles faced in the digital dating realm.

“I want to teach the world how to date,” Day expressed passionately. “I really would have liked to have a podcast to turn to that could’ve guided me through.” The duo’s shared ambition aims to create a supportive space that helps listeners build confidence and understand the nuances of dating today.
