Taylor Swift Fires Back at Legal Claims Tied to Lively-Baldoni Dispute
Swift's representatives refute allegations of her involvement in the court summons related to the It Ends With Us film.
In a recent turn of events in the legal battle between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively surrounding the film It Ends With Us, Taylor Swift has been drawn into the fray as her name has appeared in court documents. Swift's representatives have responded, asserting that the musician is being used as a pawn to generate tabloid sensationalism.
The legal entanglement began when Swift was summoned to a U.S. court, allegedly for her role in persuading Baldoni to embrace rewriting the film's script led by Lively. According to Baldoni's claims, he was invited to Lively’s New York residence in 2023 where both Swift and her husband Ryan Reynolds were present to discuss script modifications.
Representatives for Taylor Swift have vehemently denied any claims asserting she was involved in the film's casting or creative decisions. They clarified that she did not receive script edits or provide any notes on the film, reiterating that her only connection was the permission granted for her song "My Tears Ricochet" to be featured in the soundtrack among other artist contributions.
The legal spat began when Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni in December 2024, accusing him of sexual harassment, alongside claims of a smear campaign. Baldoni has since retaliated with a counter-suit against Lively and Reynolds, citing accusations including civil extortion, defamation, and invasion of privacy.
This altercation has reportedly included escalating tensions surrounding a 2023 script rewrite, where Baldoni claimed he was unexpectedly supported by both Reynolds and Swift during discussions. In his recounting of events, Baldoni indicated he was appreciative of Lively’s changes and expressed enthusiasm for collaboration.
Amid this turmoil, Isabela Ferrer, who played a younger version of Lively’s character, mentioned at the film's premiere that Swift had a role in her audition. However, Swift’s team firmly stressed that her involvement was peripheral and limited to permitting her song for the film, underscoring that she hadn’t even watched the film until weeks post-release due to her extensive touring schedule.
Swift’s representatives concluded that the motivation behind dragging her into the court proceedings seems less about justice and more about creating media buzz, labeling the subpoena as an attempt to utilize her high-profile name to distract from the core issues at hand in the ongoing case between Lively and Baldoni.
