Pope Leo XIV Advocates for Press Freedom and Journalists' Release

In his first address to the press since his selection as the new leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV addressed the plight of imprisoned journalists and called for their release, emphasizing the importance of using media to champion truth and justice.

Pope Leo XIV, in a poignant opening speech at the Vatican, highlighted the harrowing state of imprisoned journalists, advocating for their release and affirming the fundamental right to press freedom. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, there are currently 361 journalists detained globally.
